A Starry Starry Night in City of Joy
ENI Bureau Kolkata: On any other day, the frantic voice of the middle-aged auto-rickshaw driver would have been lost amid the scurrying rush of daily commuters, trying to outpace each other to take the bus at work. But not on November 10 in Kolkata. Many a heads would turn at the mention of a familiar landmark Eden Gardens where thousands would flock to witness a phenomenon called Sachin Tendulkar.
The Eden will host the Little Master’s 199th Test match amid great fanfare. Not to forget, there will be other luminaries visiting the city at the same time but for a different purpose. Bollywood Shahenshah Amitabh Bachchan and the Badshah Shah Rukh Khan will grace the City of Joy for the ongoing film festival at the same time.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote in her Facebook post: “Kolkata will be honoured to have a very eventful day on November 10, 2013. The cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar will be playing his 199th Test match at Eden Gardens on that day. We are so lucky to have the presence of some other luminaries on a single day at Kolkata,” her post reads.
“Kolkata’s showpiece event, the inauguration of the 19th Kolkata International Film Festival will also be held on that day in the august presence of iconic Amitabhji, Jayaji and their family.
Bengal’s brand ambassador Shah Rukh Khan and Kamal Haasan will also be attending the inaugural ceremony amongst a galaxy of film personalities,” she wrote.
Tendulkar will be playing his 199th Test at the Eden before his retirement from international cricket after his 200th Test match which will be held on his home soil at the Wakhende.
In the inaugural ceremony of the 19th Kolkata International Film Festival, late filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh’s unreleased film Taak Jhaank (Sunglass) will be screened for the first time, Banerjee’s post said.
