Agnimitra Paul to design dresses for actress Neha Dhupia
After designing the wardrobes of Sridevi and Manisha Koirala with her special ethnic-contemporary blend, designer Agnimitra Paul will now send over some dresses to another Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia.
Launching the first-of-its-kind designer tie-up where latest creations like Madhubani will be available online, Paul told PTI, "Neha had asked for four black dresses with frills when we bumped into each other at a recent fashion show in the city."
About Manisha, Paul recalled, "I chose a white linen Phulia handloom with blue and maroon border and for touch-up used kohl and a maroon bindi for her appearance on a TV talk show and she liked it."
"We have something more rooted than the rest of the world perhaps. We have to reach them and the e-commerce site will help it in a big way," she said about the tie-up with the premier site 365oranges.com.
Paul, who has dressed up almost all the big names in the Bengali film industry and also Bollywood actor Raghuvir Yadav in the recently released flick 'Atta Ater Bongaon Local', (based on the real life experience of a commuting girl) said perhaps the ethnicity of the patterns of Bengali designers, along with the contemporary approach, appealed to the Mumbai glitterati.
"In the past a customer in Dubai or some other place in the world could not get the couture like Madhubani immediately and had to wait for a store to open or transhipment of the merchandise, but now anything can be ordered with click of mouse and it will be deliverd to the customer's house. The world has become smaller," she said.
Famed city model Satarupa Pyne, who wore Paul's dress at a small fashion show to mark the on-line tie-up said, "She extols the womanhood of the wearer and her robes always fit in most comfortably with customary elegance. All leading city designers have a certain sensibility to our traditions." PTI
