Dadasaheb Phalke's house to be converted into memorial
Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said that the house of Dadasaheb Phalke, India's first feature-film maker, will be converted into a memorial. Speaking in the Legislative Assembly during the debate on budgetary demands, Chavan said the country was indebted to Phalke for laying the foundation of the Indian cinema industry.
"His contribution is immense. We will convert his house in the Nashik district into a befitting memorial," he said. Responding to a demand of Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse that Phalke's name be suggested for Bharat Ratna, Chavan said the state had already recommended the names of master cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and (the first Chief Minister of the state) Yashwantrao Chavan for the award. "Nothing will happen if we suggest too many names," he said. (PTI)
