Vidhu Vinod Chopra, whose upcoming production "Ferrari Ki Sawari" is all set to release this Friday, says many people tried to discourage him from making the film without a lead heroine and a superstar.
The film is Sharman Joshi's first as a solo lead and the debut directorial of Rajesh Mapuskar. It also stars Boman Irani and child actor Ritvik Sahore, who plays Sharman's son.
"Many CAs came with their balance sheets to convince me that making a film without a star or a female lead would be financial suicide. But this film is one of the finest I have
Boman and Sharman have delivered one of their best performances," Chopra said at the promotion of the film at the IIFA weekend in Singapore.
Chopra says he even put faith in first time director Mapuskar, who hadn't taken a single shot ever before in his life. "This film has been directed by a man who had never filmed anything before.
I didn't even know whether he knew how to take a shot. I have worked with many directors when they were beginning their careers Raju Hirani, Pradeep Sarkar,Sanjay Leela Bhansali. This film is the best first time director's work that my company has produced," he said.
