Notwithstanding the fact that Akshaye Khanna has acted brilliantly in films like Gandhi, My father, Race, Border, Taal and many more, he seems to have no regret that he has still not been considered as among the top stars of Bollywood. “ You need films like ‘Gadar’ and ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ to become super star. Films make you star or superstar. As an actor, I can give hundred per cent,” said Akshaye Khanna in a very animated interview with Ms.Anurradha Prasad, Editor-in-Chief of News 24 channel.

‘Do you regret that while your work got rave reviews from critics, you still have to become big time star ?’ Before replying to the question, he posed series of questions, “ What is success? Should the businessmen worth Rs 500 crores not consider himself as successful ? Should he consider himself successful only when he becomes like Dhirubhai Ambani or Azim Premji ? “ And then Akshaye Khanna said, “ I am happy where I am. God is very kind to me. I can not ask for more,” Akshaye Khanna told us. Talking about his latest flick, Gali Gali Chor Hai, Akshaye Khanna said that he truly identify with the story of the film. “ Gali-Gali Mein Chor brilliantly highlights the scourge of corruption in our society in a very entertaining manner. Every Indian worth his salt is victim of this very scourge,” adding, “ I must tell you that Gali Gali Chor Hai is not at all inspired by Anna’s anti graft movement. Frankly speaking, the script of the movie was ready around one year ago.”

‘ Do you identify with the character of Bharat in Gali Gali Chor Hai  ?’ “ Absolutely. I know for sure that all those who would watch it would identify with Bharat’s character,” Akshaye Khanna assures us. ‘ As to why you remain away from Bollywood parties, tweets, PR and other such activities integral to remain in news every time and all the time ? ‘  With little pause the thinking actor made it clear,” I am not ready to change. I am in Bollywood for the last 17 years on my own terms. There is no need for me to change.”

Voracious reader of all kinds of books, Akshaye Khanna currently reading Ram Chandra Guha’s masterly ‘India After Gandhi’ and strongly recommends all to read it in order to know more Indian post freedom.

While Akshaye Khanna is still single and has no plans to marry, though he is confident enough to say, “ I will marry one day. I will find my soul-mate though I am not in a tearing hurry as I am also worried that my privacy would be invaded.”
