Displaced by the Croatian war, she worked as a hostess in a restaurant in India before a chance meeting with a fashion photographer altered Dijana Dejanovic's life bringing her to star in National Award winning Nitish Roy's upcoming bilingual films.

Titled 'Jole Jongole' and 'Gehra Paani', the films portray Dejanovic in the role of an European crocodile researcher who has negative shades. The Croatian model says she is excited about the upcoming project.

"I was born in Croatia, but because of the war in 90s I moved to Serbian Republic in Bosnia. I had no connection with with fashion or acting before coming to India. "Back home, I started my career with a Public Broadcast Service after that was working with an Austrian Bank. But due to economic crisis, I lost my bank job and also broke up with my fiance," says the model-turned-actress from Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Sensing that it was the right time to make a big in her life and to live a life somewhere far, she started applying for jobs abroad. "One advertisement looking for a hostess in an Italian restaurant in Kolkata caught my attention...and soon I was in the city working with 'Casa Toscana'. But a chance meeting with photographer Kaustav Saikia changed my destiny forever and I was born as a model. That's how it all started," Dejanovic told PTI from Kolkata, her present home.  PTI
