Bollywood legend Naseeruddin Shah and his family will be the star attractions at a special event being organised in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore next month to pay tribute to poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz.

Shah, his wife Ratna Pathak Shah and their daughter Hiba Shah will present the acclaimed 'Ismat Apa Ke Naam', three plays based on Ismat Chughtai's short stories, during a two-day tribute to Faiz being organised by the Faiz Foundation.

The actor and his family will feature on the first day of the event at Alhamra Centre on December 1. Another set of plays based on stories by Chughtai will be performed on the second day.

Naseeruddin Shah's Motley Company theatre group has performed 'Ismat Apa Ke Naam' around the world.

The event in Lahore will raise funds for Faiz Ghar, a museum and cultural centre run by Faiz Foundation Trust.

'Ismat Apa Ke Naam' consists of plays based on Chughtai's short stories 'Chui Mui', 'Gharwali' and 'Mughal Bacha'.

The Shahs will appear both as narrators and different characters.

In a message to mark the occasion, Shah said: "Mumbai's Motley Company is delighted to be performing the play 'Ismat Apa Ke Naam' in Lahore for the benefit of Faiz Foundation."

He said he and his family and theatre group were proud to pay tribute to Faiz and were "honoured to be associated with his name, one of the unifying factors" between India and Pakistan.

"We also welcome this opportunity to reach out to student audiences and theatre lovers in Pakistan," he said.

Shah, his family and members of his theatre company are scheduled to arrive in Lahore on November 28.

During his stay in Lahore, Shah will also address film and theatre students of Beaconhouse National University and National College of Arts.

The actor has appeared in two Pakistani films in the recent past ? the hit 'Khuda Ke Liye' and 'Zinda Bhag', which was filmed in Lahore earlier this year and is yet to be released.

Shah also trained several newcomers who acted in 'Zinda Bhag', which focuses on the problem of illegal immigration. PTI
