"Promotions do not guarantee success"
Actor Irrfan Khan, who is looking forward to his forthcoming film 'Paan Singh Tomar', says that though promotions have become a "weapon" to endorse films, they can not guarantee a good box office performance.
Paan Singh Tomar' is based on the real life of a sportsman-turned-dacoit from Chambal. Tomar, a national steeplechase champion for seven straight years, quit the sport and the army to become a 'Bandit King' of the Chambal Valley.
"Those who have money, promote it in a big way. But audiences are smart enough today... if they are attracted by the promos then only they go and watch it irrespective of how much ever promotions one does," Irrfan said.
"Promotions at times help and at times they do not... it is a weapon but there is no guarantee. Ultimately it is the film that does wonders."
Directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, 'Paan Singh Tomar' will release on March 2, and features Mahie Gill alongwith Irfan. The actor, who has given hits like 'Haasil', 'The Namesake' and 'Life in a... Metro', is planning to show the film to real-life dacoits.
"We intend to show the film to the dacoits of Chambal, (and also) those who have earned medals, made name for themselves in sports," he said. PTI
