Ranbir to produce 'Bombay Velvet'
New Delhi: After proving his mettle in acting, Bollywood's chocolate boy Ranbir Kapoor will now don producer's hat.
The 'Rockstar' who is currently busy finishing his lined-up projects - ' Besharam' and 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani', will join hands with director-producer Anurag Kashyap to co-produce his ambitious project, 'Bombay Velvet' under his production house, Phantom Productions. When the actor was contacted then he said:"Innovative content excites me and I believe the Phantom team is a pioneer at it. This seems to be the perfect time in my career to take up bigger ownership of a film and be a producer."
According to a close source, "Anurag had several meetings with the presenters of the film, Viacom 18. The film has an epic canvas, with a budget of approximately 95 crores. Ranbir was not a part of the proposal at that time, since the casting was far from final."
Initially, Ranbir was roped in to play the lead role in the film; but later his involvement in theproject impresseed the makers so much that they requested him to join them in producing the film.
Apparently, Ranbir on the other hand was more than happy to become the co-producer.
'Bombay Velvet' stars Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in the main lead and is based on historian Gyan Prakash's Mumbai Fables. It traces the evolution of the city, starting from the 50s, against the backdrop of love, crime, violence and music.
